Hospitality management students take two top honors at national conference

Submitted by Jane P. Marshall

The K-State chapter of Club Managers Association of America won two top honors at the recent Club of the Future competition at the World Conference on Club Management in San Antonio, Texas.

The Club of the Future gives students an opportunity to submit their ideas for the club of the future in five different categories, which are judged by club leaders, according to Kevin Roberts, chapter adviser and associate professor in the hospitality management and dietetics department in the College of Human Ecology.

K-State won the software and member services categories. Winners presented their idea to students and professionals at the conference.

Colton Rohr, senior in hospitality management, headed the software team whose idea was called T.O.P. Golf. It incorporates microchip golf balls and high tech golf carts to enhance the game of golf. This promotes the social aspect of the game and also increases revenue.

Kaitlyn Ellis, senior in hotel and restaurant management, coordinated a project called Member Usage Tracking Program to provide management with a forum to track and log their members usage of the club and provide an opportunity to identify and reach out to members who do not use their clubs as often. This boosts the internal economics of the club.
