NCAA self-study meeting March 29

Submitted by Emily Vietti

The campus community and general public are invited to review the NCAA self-study reports and bring any questions, input or feedback to the open campus meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Hemisphere Room of Hale Library. The meeting also will be live streamed at www.k-state.edu/ncaacert, and questions can be submitted in advance or during the meeting by e-mailing them to ncaacert@k-state.edu.

K-State is undergoing our Cycle 3 NCAA certification self-study. The process is an opportunity for K-State to critically examine the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities related to the welfare of student-athletes and to ensure that our athletics program is continuing the tradition of operating in close cooperation with the university's overall goals.

The university is concluding the information gathering and research phase of the study, and each subcommittee has incorporated the information it has obtained and analyzed into an initial draft report. These drafts have been posted on the website at www.k-state.edu/ncaacert.

After the open campus meeting, the campus input and feedback will be incorporated into a revised comprehensive draft report and submitted to the steering committee for a final review. The report coordinator will submit the final report to the NCAA on April 29.

In September 2011 a peer review team will visit campus for an evaluation site visit. In April 2012 after receiving recommendations from the peer review team and upon review of our self-study report, the NCAA will release the final certification decision.

Each Division I institution going through the self-study process is evaluated using the same standards. The self-study helps ensure the integrity of the institution's athletics operation. K-State's first self-study was completed in 1995-1996 and the second in 2001-2002. In 2002 K-State received certification without any conditions, which is the highest level of certification awarded.
