Intersession, spring syllabi statements reminder

Submitted by Susana L. Valdovinos

Dear Deans, Department Heads, Faculty and Graduate Teaching Assistants,

Before we wind down the fall term, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you to include in your intersession and spring course syllabi all the mandatory statements and to also consider including the suggested optional statements.

New this fall: The Administration and Faculty Senate recently endorsed an Academic Freedom statement that is included as number 3 on the list of optional syllabi statements. Read the complete list of mandatory and optional syllabi statements.

Additionally, see the spring 2015 final exam schedule.

All faculty, instructors and GTA's should refer to section F70-73 of the University Handbook to make sure they are in compliance with the final exam policy.

Finally, the All-University Open House is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, 2015. As usual, classes will be canceled starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015. If instances arise where rescheduling in specialized classrooms or laboratory environments is not feasible, or canceling sections of a multisection course would result in the loss of an entire class day, then instructor prerogative will determine whether classes will be canceled. In these cases, faculty members choosing to hold classes at or after 2:30 p.m. must notify Room Scheduling at 785-532-1712 at the start of the spring semester to ensure that their classrooms are available. This determination should be clearly noted on the course syllabus handed out at the beginning of the semester so that students are aware of this far in advance of open house.

I have asked Susana Valdovinos, director of academic personnel, to answer any questions you may have about this. Contact her at 785-532-4392, or svaldovi@k-state.edu.

Have a joyful holiday season and a happy new year.

Best regards,

April
