College of Business Administration sponsoring international conference on corporate social responsibility

Submitted by Olivia Blanco

The College of Business Administration is sponsoring the the 2011 International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility in Sub-Saharan Africa. The conference is in the Lekki Penninsula, in Lagos, Nigeria, Dec. 12-14.

More than 40 papers on corporate social responsibility will be presented by theorists, practitioners and researchers from around the world, including three papers co-authored by faculty of the college and Kansas State University.

“There has never been a conference on corporate social responsibility like this one in Nigeria,” said Ike Ehie, professor of management and College of Business Administration faculty fellow. “I believe the discussions and dialogue will bring greater sophistication to the way corporate social responsibility catalyzes sustainable, economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa.”

Ehie is the co-chair of the program with Myra Gordon, associate provost in the office of diversity at K-State.

“We are proud of the important role that K-State and the College of Business Administration are taking in this conference,” Ehie said. “Without the support of the university and the college, as well as my colleague’s valuable research, programs like this one would not be possible.”

For more than four years, K-State and the College of Business Administration have had a partnership with the faculty of business administration at the University of Lagos to make enhancements in their curriculum and academic offerings. Projects have included libraries and computer labs built with resources from the U.S. Agency for International Development, as well as the creation of a Business Advisory Council.

"International collaboration and the advancement of research is a key to achieve the goals for K-State's Vision 2025," said Anand Desai, associate dean for academic administration in the college. "We welcome the work that Dr. Ehie has done to make this very important conference a reality. This conference enables our faculty to showcase their research on corporate social responsibility in an international forum."
