Submitted by Brenee King

The Kansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation and the College of Agriculture are hosting a webinar by the Louis Stokes Midwest Center for Excellence from 1-2 p.m. Oct. 30 in 342 Waters Hall. A short discussion will follow. No RSVP is necessary.

The center's mission is to increase enrollment and retention of minority students in science, technology, engineering and math disciplines. The topic of the webinar is mentoring undergraduate research students.

The speaker for this webinar will be Rafael E. Bahamonde, fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and fellow of International Society of Biomechanics in Sports. He is a professor of kinesiology and the associate dean at the Indiana University School of Physical Education and Tourism Management. He also is the director of outreach for Louis Stokes Midwest Center of Excellence.

Bahamonde will discuss how to navigate the mentoring relationship with undergraduate research students. A focus of his talk will be how to create a mutually enjoyable and beneficial relationship during the mentoring process. The information presented during this session could be beneficial to early career research faculty, staff and postdoctoral fellows. This presentation also is an opportunity to interact and network with researchers from Kansas State University.
