Experts to discuss first-generation documentary on KMAN

Submitted by Patrice Scott

Wednesday morning two K-State experts will be interviewed on a local radio station to discuss a documentary produced by the College of Education about first-generation college students.

Cathy Dawes, KMAN news director, will interview Debbie Mercer, dean of the College of Education and Rusty Earl, the college's videographer, from 9:30 to 9:50 a.m. about the film "A Walk in My Shoes: First Generation College Students."

Listeners can tune to 1350 AM or listen via live stream. Callers are welcomed at 785-537-1350.

The impetus for the documentary came when Mercer decided to explore the lives of first-generation college students, a group that makes up 34 percent of the college's undergraduate students. Forty percent of K-State students are first generation, which is twice the national average.

The documentary premieres at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 4 in Forum Hall.
