Calling all professors: The Peer Review of Teaching Program wants you

Submitted by Lisa Tatonetti

K-State faculty,

Please consider applying to the Peer Review of Teaching Program. Proposals are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 10.

The Peer Review of Teaching Program assists faculty in developing and documenting their teaching. Each participant engages in a year-long fellowship with a community of scholars to enhance learning within their classes.

Each faculty member will be paired with a peer, most often from another department, and an experienced teaching mentor. Over the course of the 2014-2015 year, these teams will observe each others classes and work together to study and enhance different aspects of teaching such as intellectual content, teaching practices and student understanding.

In addition, the entire group of program fellows and program mentors meet together once per month to share classroom experiences and pedagogical strategies. At the conclusion of the spring semester, faculty combine their memo exchanges and written reflections on this experience into a course portfolio in which they reflect on the success of a course in helping students to learn. These portfolios can enhance the standing of teaching as a serious component of faculty members' careers.

Fall semester activities include participating in a required project orientation on the morning of Nov. 15 in which the program fellows will collaborate with their faculty peer and mentor to review and revise their spring course syllabus.

Following completion and approval of the course portfolio in spring 2015, each participant will receive $1,000 in faculty development funds.

If you are interested in joining this exciting and important project, please contact Lisa Tatonetti at tatonett@k-state.edu. I am available to talk with you about the program and answer any questions.
