August 2011 Update

· The North American Miller's Association (NAMA) announced the creation of a NAMA instructor of milling position at K-State.

· Agricultural economics faculty and graduate students participated in the 2011 Canadian Agricultural Economics Society and Western Agricultural Economics Association joint annual meetings in Banff, Alberta.

· Dan and Beth Bird made a $1.2 million bequest to K-State to establish scholarships in animal sciences and industry, business administration, agricultural economics and to support football and men's basketball.

· Philip and Mariette Orth established the Philip W. and Mariette C. Orth Wildcat Scholarship.

Faculty awards

· Kim Williams, professor of greenhouse management, has been chosen to receive the 2011 American Society of Horticultural Science's outstanding undergraduate educator award. The national award will be presented at the 2011 meeting of the society in September.

· Jon Faubion, professor of grain science and industry, earned the 2011 AACC International excellence in teaching award. The award is presented to a current teacher who has made significant contributions through teaching in the field of cereal science and technology. Four K-State faculty are past recipients.

· Karen Schmidt, professor of animal sciences and industry, received the Milk Industry Foundation's teaching award in dairy science. The award was presented at the recent American Society of Animal Science/American Dairy Science Association meeting in New Orleans.
