Important changes to K-State wireless networks

Submitted by Harvard Townsend

This fall K-State’s wireless data networks are switching to a new form of security, known as WPA2-Enterprise, which provides much better protection of K-State information, your personal information and your electronic communications.

Two new wireless networks are now available for you to use:

  • KSU Wireless (for all K-State faculty and staff, plus students not living in on-campus housing)
  • KSU Housing (for students living in residence halls and Jardine Apartments)

You must switch to one of these networks before Oct. 25 or your wireless connection will stop working. On this date, the wireless network named k-state.net, which has very weak security, will be removed.

To configure your wireless device, visit wireless.k-state.edu/connect and follow the instructions. This is an automated configuration tool for Windows, Mac OS X, Ubuntu, Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android operating systems. For other devices, or if the automated configuration fails, use the manual configuration instructions. (PDF)

Campus visitors will use the KSU Guest network, which does not require an eID/password and does NOT allow access to enterprise systems such as K-State Online, Webmail, iSIS, and HRIS employee self-service. K-State faculty, staff, and students must not use this guest network since it provides little security and needs to be available for campus visitors.

IT Services staff will be available in the K-State Student Union by the food court from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates to assist K-Staters with configuring their devices for the new wireless networks. There is no need to make an appointment; just stop by any time with your device.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 28
  • Thursday, Oct. 6
  • Tuesday, Oct. 11
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19
  • Tuesday, Oct. 25
