New media:scape collaborative zone on loan to K-State

Submitted by Betsy Edwards

media:scape zone available in Hale Library

Students and faculty/staff are invited to try out a new collaboration and videoconferencing space named media:scape that's just arrived in Hale Library and on loan to the university for six weeks. Information technology services and K-State Libraries made arrangements for the trial from Steelcase Inc. This is the 21st stop across the nation for this unit.

The technology includes a collaborative station for up to six people and connections for up to six laptops, with any two displaying at one time.

The media:scape space "democratizes how people access and share information by allowing all participants to contribute their ideas – equally, quickly and seamlessly," according to Steelcase's website. For details, see Steelcase's media:scape overview.

Students and faculty/staff are encouraged to walk in and use the system -- no scheduling needed, which is on the second floor of Hale Library. A survey will be available to collect feedback from participants.

Questions about the technology trial can be sent to Ernie Perez, ern@k-state.edu, 785-532-3190.
