Santosh Aryal to present public forum in university cluster hire interview

Santosh Aryal is a candidate for assistant professor as part of the university cluster hire initiative with the Nanotechnology Innovation Center at Kansas State, or NICKS, and the Institute of Computation Comparative Medicine, or ICCM.

He will participate in a public forum at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, in the ICCM/NICKS Conference Center, P223 Mosier Hall.

The lecture abstract:

Nanotechnology has continuously contributed to the fast development of diagnostic and therapeutic agents. During the last several decades controlled drug delivery technology has advanced significantly, leading to the development of various clinical formulations improving patient compliance and convenience. Among these formulations, polymer based theranostics, polymer nanoconstruct; agents hold great promise for the construction of multifunctional agents for translational medicine. In this talk, an integrated approach for the chemistry and engineering of nanoconstructs with high level of accumulation within the diseased tissue, improved circulation half-life, and minimal sequestration by the organs of the reticuloendothelial system will be discussed. Various chemical approaches for polymer synthesis, polymer drug conjugation, drug-drug conjugation, precise ratiometric loading of two or more than two therapeutic agents to overcome chemo-resistance, and surface modification of nanoconstructs will be presented. These nanoconstructs are made up of biodegradable and biocompatible polymers, phospholipids, and small molecule therapeutic agents or second stage nanoparticles (iron oxide or gold nanoparticles) using bottom-up nanoprecipitation or template mediated top-down approaches. The talk will be concluded with the properties and finding of these engineered nanoconstructs including superior contrast enhancement properties for MR and PET imaging, pharmacokinetics, therapy, and its future prospectives.
