Got e-waste? Bring it to K-State April 30 for recycling event

Submitted by Kelly Phillips

K-State is partnering with PSC Environmental Inc. for the RecycleNow electronic waste collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in the university's D1 parking lot, which is across from West Stadium, and just north of St. Isidore's Catholic Student Center on Denison Avenue. The recycling event is open to the public.

A variety of electronics will be accepted for proper recycling at no charge. Accepted items are computers, cell phones, printers, scanners, TVs with screens that are 27 inches or less, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players and many other electronic devices.

Items that won't be accepted are TVs with screens more than 27 inches, appliances and microwave ovens.

PSC and K-State worked together to secure many local sponsors to provide materials, equipment, in-kind services and monetary contributions for the event, according to Kelly Phillips, K-State environmental manager. All net proceeds from the event support sustainability efforts on the campus and the international charity World Bicycle Relief.

Phillips recommends people remove all personal information from devices like cell phones and computers before bringing them in for recycling.
