Economics faculty member to lecture today about the great financial crisis

Submitted by Daniel Kuester

The Economics Club host a talk by Lloyd "Tom" Thomas, professor, about “The Great Financial Crisis: Causes and Consequences” at 6:45 p.m. today in the Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building. This talk is free and open to the public.

A second edition of Thomas’ book, “The Financial Crisis and Federal Reserve Policy,” was recently published. It provides an overview of the recent financial crisis in the United States and provides interesting contrasts between this crisis and earlier crises including the Great Depression.

Thomas has won numerous awards for teaching during his time at Kansas State University and has written several textbooks, including "Money, Banking, and Economic Activity," 3rd edition, Prentice-Hall, 1986; "Principles of Economics," 2nd edition, Dryden, 1993, with James Ragan; and "Money, Banking, and Financial Markets," Thomson/Southwestern, 2006. His research has appeared in journals such as Southern Economic Journal, The Journal of Economic Perspectives, Economic Letters, Kyklos, Public Finance Quarterly and Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance.

The talk will immediately follow a regularly scheduled Economics Club meeting. We expect the talk to begin between 6:45 and 6:50 p.m. Interested parties are welcome to observe our Economics Club meeting, which will start at 6:30 p.m.
