Information regarding Jan. 31 paycheck

Submitted by Kristi Fronce

Unclassified employees did not accrue vacation leave for the pay period ending Jan. 18 and paycheck dated Jan. 31. Unclassified employees earn 22 days — 176 hours — in a fiscal year and do not accrue vacation leave whenever there is a third paycheck in a month.

Unclassified employees also won’t accrue vacation leave on the last two pay periods of the fiscal year — pay periods ending May 24 and June 7.

As a reminder, paychecks dated Jan. 31 reflect the increased KPERS employee contributio of 5 percent for all Tier 1 employees.

Also, with the exception of employee health savings account contributions, since this is the third paycheck in January, voluntary employee deductions such as GHI, dental, etc., that are taken semi-monthly on the first two paychecks of the month, are not deducted from this check.

For employees who participate in a health savings account, the employee health savings account contribution was deducted from the second and third paycheck in January as communicated in the open enrollment materials. The health savings account employee contribution will be taken from the first two paychecks of the month for the remainder of 2014.
