Study abroad office offers new scholarships

Submitted by Karli Webster

The study abroad office has two new scholarships for study abroad students. Please share this information with any students you know may be interested in studying abroad, especially students who may think the cost of studying abroad would prevent them from looking into such an experience.

Mike and Becky Goss Study Abroad Scholarship

Twenty-five scholarships of $5,000 each will be distributed to students each year. For the first year of this endowment, all 25 scholarships will be awarded during the spring 2012 term.

This scholarship is for undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at Kansas State University applying to study abroad for at least one semester. Preference will be given to students who have graduated from a Kansas high school. Selection will be based on the office of international programs scholarship grading criteria, which consists of a written essay, academic merit, financial need and community involvement.

In order to apply for this scholarship, students must submit an office of international programs study abroad scholarship application. Applications for spring 2012 are due no later than Oct. 14.

Mike and Becky Goss funded the scholarship.

Faculty-led Program Scholarship

Twenty-five scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded annually to undergraduate or graduate students properly enrolled in any curriculum at K-State applying to study abroad on a faculty-led study abroad program through the university.

Selection will be based on the office of international programs scholarship grading criteria, which consists of a written essay, academic merit, financial need and community involvement.

In order to apply for this scholarship, students must submit an office of international programs study abroad scholarship application. Applications for winter interterm 2011-2012 and spring break 2012 programs are due no later than Oct. 14.

As always, the K-State scholarships — marked at the link below — and national scholarships are still available to K-State students wanting to study abroad. Eligibility for each scholarship is different, so students should be sure to review the list of scholarships to find the ones for which they qualify.

The scholarship is funded partially by the office of international programs and the Student Governing Association.

The updated scholarship listing can be found here.

If you are aware of any other scholarships being offered at K-State, or nationally, for study abroad, please let me know and we will be happy to add them to this list.
