K-State sociology graduate students give awards to faculty

Submitted by Kristin Kelly

When the spring 2013 semester came to a close, K-State sociology graduate students gave faculty awards in the area of Outstanding Teaching and Mentorship to the following: Alisa Garni, assistant professor of sociology; Frank Weyher, associate professor of sociology; Gerad Middendorf, associate professor of sociology; and Richard Goe, professor of sociology.

Students also gave one award of highest distinction in memory of sociology faculty Roy Barnett, who died in fall 2012. It was it believed that Barnett taught every sociology major at the university since 2001. Graduate students noted Barnett as one whose dedication to teaching and mentorship inspired them all to do more for one another.

In an anonymous student survey, graduate students ranked Laszlo Kulcsar, associate professor of sociology, above the rest, and awarded him the first Roy Barnett Memorial Award for Outstanding Teaching and Mentorship.

K-State sociology graduate students expressed laudatory comments about each faculty member and thanked them all for their continued commitment to the graduate program.
