International Education Week allows the Kansas State University to celebrate our global community of 2,106 international students on campus, with 981 international students from China, 141 students from Saudi Arabia and 136 Indian students studying on campus.

The office of international programs is presenting the International Education of the Year Awards Ceremony from 4-5 p.m. today in the K-State Alumni Center's B Ballroom. The campus community is invited to celebrate with the winners. Provost April Mason will speak between 4:30- 5 p.m.

The reception will recognize three categories of exceptional service honoring:

  • 2013 International Educator of the Year: P.V. Vara Prasad, agronomy
  • 2013 Innovative Education Program of the Year: Brazilian Government
  • 2013 Outstanding Support for International Initiatives: Derek Jackson, housing and dining services

Prasad is the winner of the International Educator of the Year Award for his significant contributions to advancing international education at K-State. One faculty, staff, administrator or other member of the K-State community is selected, honored and recognized at this annual award reception.

The 2013 Innovative Education Program of the Year Award will be presented to Brazil Embassy officer Pedro Saldanha, the embassy adviser for the educational sector. The Brazilian government has made significant investment and commitment in transforming education in Brazil through the Brazilian Science Mobility Program.

The 2013 Outstanding Support for International Initiatives Award will be presented to housing and dining services for the professional efforts by the director of housing and dining services at K-State.

The final event during International Education Week is the Brown Bag Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the International Technology Commons on the second floor of Wildcat Landing, which is at the corner of Claflin Road and Denison Ave. This presentation features Marcelo Sabates, interim associate provost in the office of international programs, and the 2013 International Education Week Educator of the Year awardee department representative. An update on internationalization on campus will be offered as well as a tour of the new International Technology Commons space, which was dedicated on Oct. 1.

Join us and celebrate and promote international education and exchange.
