Lanell Kemp Finneran

Bio: Lanell Kemp Finneran is a Registered Drama Therapist, Board Certified Trainer and is certified in secondary special education, speech/theatre arts, and psychology. She has over 30 years of teaching in both public and special-day school settings, including fourteen years at Southard School-Menninger. Lanell recently retired from teaching in the Secondary Therapeutic Classroom located in the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center in Lawrence, Kansas. She served on the NADTA Board of Directors and is a current member of NADTA. She is an adjunct faculty member in drama therapy at Kansas State University. Lanell has received numerous awards, including KSU College of Arts & Sciences Merit Alumni Award (2010), Kansas Arts Commission and Governor’s Arts Award (2009), USD#497 Secondary Teacher of the Year Award (2005), Lawrence Education Association Legacy Award (2004), Kansas Educator of the Year in Arts and Disabilities from Accessible Arts, Inc. and the Kansas State Board of Education (2001), the NADTA Service Award (2001). Lanell enjoys gardening and knitting and owns two Jack Russell Terrier certified therapy dogs who worked in her special education classroom. She received both her BA and MS degrees from Kansas State University.
