Advanced Manufacturing Institute Helps Sponsor ‘Invention to Venture’ Workshop

(Manhattan, Kan. February 20, 2007) – An Invention to Venture workshop will be held Friday, April 13 from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. in K-State's Fiedler Hall.

Backed by the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance and the Kauffman Foundation, the event is one of a national series of workshops for science and technology students and faculty. Other sponsors include K-State's Office of the Provost and the National Institute for Strategic Technology Acquisition and Commercialization.

The national Invention to Venture series has been established to tap the entrepreneurial ambitions of students and faculty on college campuses across the United States. Participants discover how to turn an idea into a new product venture and connect with local people and programs that can help them turn their ideas into reality. The workshop provides an exciting opportunity for participants to learn technology entrepreneurship basics, build their networks and develop plans for moving their ideas forward.

Workshop topics include:

  • What is Technology Entrepreneurship/Is Technology Entrepreneurship for You?
  • Idea Validation and Opportunity Assessment
  • Intellectual Property and Licensing
  • Building the Team
  • Developing the Perfect Business Plan
  • Finding the Money
  • Sales and Marketing

Workshop participants also will take part in the fourth annual K-State Spotlight on Intellectual Property luncheon with guest speaker Thomas V. Thornton, president and chief executive officer of the Kansas Bioscience Authority. A networking reception will be in the ballroom of the K-State Student Union following the workshop.

Cost of the workshop is $20 for students, $40 for faculty and staff and $75 for general admission. For additional information, contact Sharon Brookshire at 785-532-2566 or sharonb@k-state.edu. To register, visithttp://www.invention2venture.org and click on "Manhattan, KS" under the schedule heading.
