Guidance on Exchange Visitors

All individuals funded in full or part with USAID funds are considered Exchange Visitors and must use a USAID J-1 visa. There are two exceptions to this guidance: co-PIs coming to the U.S. for Innovation Lab administrative business and advisory body members/evaluators. These individuals are not considered Exchange Visitors and do not have to use a USAID J-1 visa.

The SIIL management entity is available to answer any questions about this policy and to provide guidance on the process as necessary. However, please note that the SIIL management entity will not act as the assigned initiator (R1) or the assigned verifier (R2) in the TraiNet-Visa Compliance System. This remains a responsibility of the PI and the relevant host institution.
