Family: Scincidae (Skinks)

  1. Coccidian of Bray, 1964
    1. Host: Bray (1964) originally reported the host as Mabuya raddoni. Mabuya raddoni has since been synonymized pro parte between the two different hosts, Mabuya affinis (Senegal mabuya) and Mabuya albilabrus (although some authors do list Mabuya raddoni as a separate species). It is impossible to know which species of skink was actually examined.

    1. Host: Eumeces schneideri (Schneider's skink)
    2. Reference: Koudela and Modry 1999

  3. Eimeria ablephari Cannon, 1967
    1. Host: Cryptoblepharus sp. (syn. Ablepharus boutonii) (a snake-eyed skink)
    2. Reference: Cannon 1967b
    3. Remarks: Cannon (1967b) described this coccidian from an Australian snake-eyed skink in Queensland he termed "Ablepharus boutonii." However, this species of skink is now known to be confined to Chile, some of the islands off of the coast of Peru, and specific locals in Hawaii. The actual skink once termed Ablepharus boutonii, and now known to occur throughout many regions of the Pacific basin, is currently termed Cryptoblepharus boutonii. To complicate matters further, this species per sec does not occur in Australia. Rather, several sister species (or subspecies according to some authors) have been reported from Queensland all of which have had the trivial name boutonii incorporated into their name at one time or another. These include Cryptoblepharus carnabyi (Shiny-palmed shinning skink or Carnaby's tree skink), Cryptoblepharus fuhni (Black-boulder shinning skink or Fuhn's tree skink), Cryptoblepharus litoralis (Supralittoral shinning skink or Littoral skink), Cryptoblepharus plagicephalus (Callose-palmed shinning skink or Centralian tree skink), and Cryptoblepharus virgatus (Cream-striped shinning skink), any one of which may be the species actually seen by Cannon. A good argument in favor of depositing type hosts into accredited museums whenever possible.
