Funding

Find funding

The Office of Research Development helps faculty find external sources of funding for research. ORD staff members can provide personal consultations to identify opportunities and develop proposals. Call 785-532-6195 or email ord@k-state.edu with any questions.

Funding Connection

The Office of Research Development assembles an updated list of funding opportunities weekly. Look at each week's list separately or search the database of all opportunities.

Limited submissions

Internal grant programs: Faculty Development Awards and University Small Research Grants

Faculty Development Awards provide support to travel to international meetings, primarily at international locations, to participate in foreign exchanges — such as NEH fellowships — and to meet with program officers of potential external sponsors. The University Small Research Grants program is a seed grant program to support early research, scholarly activity and other creative efforts.

Global Food Systems Seed Grant Program

Kansas State University has a multidisciplinary initiative in Global Food Systems, or GFS, that builds on its research strengths and land-grant mission to help address the challenge of sustainably feeding a world population that will double global food demand by 2050. Given the importance of food production to the Kansas economy, the innovation and knowledge resulting from this initiative are expected to assist with job creation and economic development within the state and to help Kansas remain a leader in food production. The State of Kansas has provided K-State with funding for GFS-related research, workforce development, and economic development and innovation activities. The GFS Seed Grant Program is supported by this state funding.

Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research

This program, known as EPSCoR, focuses on states that have historically received less federal research and development funding. Kansas is an EPSCoR state and special opportunities exist with the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Health, NASA, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy and the Department of Defense.

Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence

Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence, or COBRE, support thematic, multidisciplinary centers that augment and strengthen institutional biomedical research capacity. This is accomplished by expanding and developing biomedical faculty research capability and enhancing research infrastructure, including the establishment of core facilities needed to carry out program objectives. Funding opportunities for these centers come in the form of seed grants that are typically announced annually by each center. In addition, these centers must periodically add new early career faculty to become mentees in the center as their current mentees "graduate" after two years of funding.

Fulbright Scholar Program

Each year, the U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program offers nearly 470 teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in more than 125 countries. Opportunities are available for university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. In addition to several new program models designed to meet the changing needs of U.S. academics and professionals, Fulbright is offering more opportunities for flexible, multi-country grants.
