TIME: 60 Seconds SUGGESTED INTRO: WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF RESEARCH PROJECTS IN THE WORKS, K-STATE IS DOING ITS PART IN HELPING TO KEEP THE UNITED STATES SAFE. LANICE THOMSON REPORTS. K-STATE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A LEADER IN RESEARCH AND THE UNIVERSITY IS STUDYING A WIDE RANGE OF TOPICS RELEVANT TO HOMELAND SECURITY. DR. JAMES GUIKEMA IS K-STATE’S ASSOCIATE VICE PROVOST FOR RESEARCH AND THE ASSOCIATE DEAN OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL. HE SAYS K-STATE HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF THE COUNTRY LONG BEFORE THE EVENTS OF 9-11. GUIKEMA SAYS CURRENT RESEARCH ON HOMELAND SECURITY ISSUES IS NOT CONFINED TO THE PHYSICAL SCIENCES, BUT ENCOMPASSES A WIDE VARIETY OF DISCIPLINES FROM ALL OVER THE UNIVERSITY. . .
