Chris Smith's research focuses on ecology, evolution and mammalian social behavior. He has documented the patterns of selective pressures that have led to the evolution of natural communities and ecosystems. Since the 1960s, Smith's research has been published in almost 40 publications. He is a member of the American Society of Naturalists, the Society for the Study of Evolution and the Ecological Society of America. Smith, professor of biology at Kansas State University, received his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Colorado in 1960 and his master's in 1963 and doctorate in 1965, both in zoology from the University of Washington.
