Assistant professor of biology
Carolyn Ferguson, assistant professor of biology at Kansas State University, is curator of the KSU Herbarium. K-State's herbarium contains more than 185,000 species of plants and seeds, most of which date back as far as the late 1880s.
Ferguson's recent studies have addressed aspects of plant systematics -- exploring the evolutionary relationships of species, questions of evolutionary process and taxonomy. Much of her current work focuses on the genus Phlox in the family Polemoniaceae.
She is a member of the American Society for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Plant Taxonomists, the Society for the Study of Evolution, the Society of Systematic Biologists and Sigma Xi.
Fergusion joined K-State in August 2000. She received her bachelor's degree in biology in 1990 from Charleton College, Minn., and a doctorate degree in botany in 1998 from the University of Texas at Austin.
