K-State's Grain Science Complex Kansas
State University has in the works a five-building, $60-million Grain
Science Complex, which will be constructed on a 16-acre lot on the north
side of Kimball Avenue, directly across from the K-State football stadium.
Two of the buildings, a Bioprocessing and Industrial Value-Added Program
facility and the International Grains Program Executive Conference Center,
are already under construction and will be finished by March 2004. Coming
next are a feed mill, flour mill and Teaching, Research and Baking facility. Brendan Donnelly, head of K-State's grain science and industry department and director of the international grains program, said the Grain Science Complex will place the department and K-State as the premier university-based post-harvest cereal-related teaching, research and outreach program in the world. "It will provide modern facilities for undergraduate students to learn cereal processing science and technology, improved facilities for faculty and graduate students to conduct research and outstanding facilities for outreach programs to the state, nation and world," he said. "The combination of programs, people and facilities at this site will be unparalleled at any university in the United States." Following is information about each of the buildings.
