Kansas Lipidomics Research Center Director:
Ruth Welti The Kansas Lipidomics Research Center was established in 2003 as an intercampus venture between Kansas State University, the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas Medical Center. The Kansas Lipidomics Research Center features an analytical laboratory that uses mass spectrometric technologies to profile lipid molecular species. The laboratory is a unique facility because it is the only known laboratory that performs rapid, detailed lipid analysis on a fee-for-service basis. Because all organisms have lipids, knowledge of these lipids can lead to a better understanding of diseases found in animals and plants. The Kansas Lipidomics Research Center also works to develop technology to expand lipid profiling and other metabolomic capabilities. The center offers a place for collaborative research and training for both scientists and students.
