Music Education Graduate Teaching Assistantship

For priority consideration of the graduate teaching assistantship with the Kansas State University Music Education Department, applicants should have their Graduate School and School of Music applications complete (including any necessary auditions) by Jan. 24, 2023. If the position is still available after this date, completed applications will be accepted through April 15, 2023.

This position is a graduate teaching assistantship with a .5 FTE, equating to 20 hours of work per week.

Award:

  • $12,000 stipend per year
  • Tuition Waiver equaling up to 10 Graduate credit hours per semester
  • Possibility of additional $3,000 scholarship if accepted and contract signed by Jan 24, 2022.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Music or Music Education degree
  • Exceptional performance, research, and/or teaching ability
  • Admission to Graduate Studies of Kansas State University
  • Recipient will be a graduate student pursuing one of the following degrees:
    • Master of Music (Applied Study)
    • Master of Music Education
    • Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Music cognate

Duties:

  • Assisting Music Education department faculty as assigned
  • Teaching Assistant in Music 405, Music for Elementary Educators
    • Conducting “lab” classes for 10-25 students
    • Evaluating student work
    • Attending Dr. Gurgel’s large lectures and assisting as needed
  • Possibly assisting on research projects and supervising student teachers
