About the Choirs

Since the founding of K-State on February 16, 1863, instruction in music has been a feature throughout the history of the school. From the earliest performance of the "Choral Union" in 1865, Kansas State University Choral ensembles have been a vital and visible entity to the more than 24,000 students at K-State every year.

Currently, the Choral Music Division is led by Dr. Joshua Oppenheim, Directors of Choral Studies and assisted by Dr. Jamie Bunce, Assitant Director of Choral Studies, and by Mr. David Wood, Director of Early Music Ensembles. Since 1966, the choir has been selected thirty-five times to appear at state, regional and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Association for Music Education, and the National Collegiate Choral Organization.

The K-State Choirs have worked with notable conductors: Robert Shaw, John Alldis, Roger Wagner, Aaron Copland, Simon Halsey, Owain Park, and Stephen Layton. International performances are an important aspect to the choral program at K-State. International performance tours occur every other year. International travel has included: Australia, Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Wales.
