OVERVIEW

Through reflection and interaction with the local Atenas, Costa Rica community, continue to develop intermediate Spanish language abilities-- speaking, listening, reading, writing, and culture—as well as critical thinking and creativity. 

Learn about and from the Atenas community while utilizing personal skills to assist in the attainment of community goals. 

Research, write, and revise individual papers incorporating appropriate secondary sources and observations made in Atenas.

Represent our university and country positively through consistently respectful and responsible behavior.

OVERVIEW
Welcome to Spanish and Leadership Studies in Ecuador, Summer 2018! Participants in this program will earn Spanish language credit, engage with local communities, and participate in humanitarian service projects at the center of the world. In addition to increasing Spanish language proficiency, students will develop leadership skills through service and teamwork. The first month of this 9 week program takes place in Quito, where students live with host families, take courses taught by KSU Spanish language faculty, and participate in weekend excursions. During the second half of the program students will work in Pedernales, a coastal community affected by a recent earthquake. Students will participate in guided rehabilitation efforts and volunteer in local schools where they will continue to develop tools for communication, as well as gain a better understanding of their roles in a global community.  

Language Prerequisite: Yes – must have completed SPAN 301 or equivalent

Variety of courses and combination according to your level, including:

KSU in Leipzig, Germany - Summer 2018 Course and Study Tour - Dr. Nichole Neuman

OVERVIEW
KSU in Leipzig is a six-week linguistic and cultural immersion course that includes intensive language instruction at InterDaF am Herder-Institut at the Universitat Leipzig, a one-week faculty-led tour of Berlin and Potsdam, and a one-week excursion program organized by InterDaF staff to sites such as Weimar, Wittenberg, and Dresden. Students will visit, experience, talk, and write about important German cultural and historic sites. Students are expected to attend pre-departure meetings in the Spring 2017 semester to prepare intellectually and in practical matters for the study abroad program. Upon return to K-State (Fall 2017), students will be asked to participate in advertising the program by sharing their experiences.
