INFLUENZA VACCINE AVAILABLE AT LAFENE HEALTH CENTER FOR K-STATE STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF AND THEIR SPOUSES AND CHILDREN 18 YEARS AND OLDER

MANHATTAN -- The influenza vaccine is now available at Kansas State University's Lafene Health Center, with influenza vaccine clinics planned for each Thursday from Sept. 17 until semester break or until supplies are depleted.

The vaccine will be available for K-State students, faculty and staff, as well as their spouses and children 18 years or older, at Lafene's Immunization Clinic from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. Sept. 17 and Oct. 1, 15, 22 and 29. Additional dates to be scheduled will be listed on the Lafene Web site at http://www.k-state.edu/lafene

K-Staters wanting to receive the vaccine should check in at Lafene's front entrance on the scheduled clinic dates. Vaccines are available on a walk-in basis, with no appointment is needed. As with all vaccines administered through the health center, there is a required 20-minute wait period following the vaccine injection.

The cost of the vaccine is $15 for students and $20 for faculty, staff and their family members.

In addition, the flu vaccine will be available to K-Staters at the following special events:

* K-State Benefits Expo, for faculty and staff only, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, Ballroom, K-State Student Union.

* Lafene Health Center's 19th annual Health Fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, Union courtyard. It is anticipated that influenza vaccine will be available.

Please note that the seasonal influenza vaccine does not protect against the H1N1 influenza. The H1N1 influenza vaccine may be available later this semester, and more information will follow when the vaccine becomes available.

The Lafene Web site also has information about the upcoming health fair and updates on the influenza vaccines.
