BARTON TO SERVE AS NEW DIRECTOR OF THE KANSAS REGENTS NETWORK

MANHATTAN -- Susan Barton has been named the new director of the Kansas Regents Network, TELENET 2, effective June 14.

TELENET 2 is a video and audio conferencing system, based at Kansas State University, that connects communities across Kansas, providing credit and professional educational opportunities in a convenient delivery format for people in the state.

Barton has served as coordinator for network operations for the TELENET 2 system since July 1988. She succeeds John Allard, who is retiring after serving in the post for the last 13 years.

"TELENET 2 will continue to offer a full range of audio and video conferencing services, which are available 24/7," Barton said. "Our high definition video services are available for multi-point and direct-connect situations, and we recently moved to a new Avaya Meeting Exchange platform to serve our audio clients."

In her role as director, Barton will continue offering the technology TELENET 2 provides at its 22 classroom sites throughout Kansas. Currently, more than 6,000 individuals have attended a class via this system.

"Our goal is to provide services that support teaching, research and collaboration for K-Staters," Barton said. "Audio and video conferencing are viable options for academic and administrative units that need a cost-effective way to communicate with others off campus and around the world."

Barton has a bachelor's degree in print journalism from K-State and serves on the Professional Development Committee at K-State's Division of Continuing Education.

TELENET 2 offers classroom sites in Arkansas City, Chanute, Colby, Concordia, Dodge City, El Dorado, Emporia, Garden City, Great Bend, Hays, Independence, Leavenworth, Liberal, Manhattan, Marysville, Overland Park, Pittsburg, Pratt, Salina, Sublette, Topeka and Wichita.

More information on TELENET 2 and its classroom sites is available at http://www.telenet2.ksu.edu
