Planners, promoters, recruiters: Student alumni board gains 17 new members

MANHATTAN -- Seventeen Kansas State University students are joining a select organization that promotes and serves the university and K-State Alumni Association.

New members of the Student Alumni Board were selected recently after an extensive interview process. The board is made up of around 35 students.

Student Alumni Board members are responsible for planning and hosting several programs to recruit new students to K-State. These include the For Sophomores Only program for high school sophomores and the Just for Juniors program for high school juniors and their parents.

Board members also assist with Wildcats Forever, Grad Bash, the Wabash CannonBall, the Jr. Wildcat Club and other alumni association events.

"They are a wonderful group of students," said Megan Sherlock, Student Alumni Board adviser and associate director of student programs for the K-State Alumni Association. "We look forward to working with them to promote K-State."

The following students are new members of the Student Alumni Board:

Jordan Pieschl, freshman in animal sciences and industry and pre-veterinary medicine, Brookville, daughter of Tony and Pat Pieschl.

From Greater Kansas City: Kaitlin Beeman, sophomore in architectural engineering, Lenexa, daughter of Ed and Kathy Beeman; Suhani Gandhi, sophomore in business administration, Olathe, daughter of Dinesh and Sunita Gandhi; Jordan Marquess, freshman in biology, Olathe, daughter of Brian and Jeree Marquess; Kathryn Silva, sophomore in advertising and English, Olathe, daughter of Raymond and Susan Silva; Kevin Kleine, sophomore in computer engineering, Prairie Village, son of Bill and Maggie Kleine; and Canaan Coker, sophomore in biology and premedicine, Shawnee, son of Darren and Michelle Coker.

Abby Works, junior in food science, nutrition and chemistry, Iola, daughter of Fred and Judy Works; Ellen Bergkamp, sophomore in agricultural economics, Kechi, daughter of Scott and Kathleen Bergkamp; Jake Unruh, sophomore in finance, Manhattan, son of Greg and Maria Unruh; Mollie Stephens, sophomore in hotel and restaurant management, Pittsburg, daughter of Jeff and Sherri Stephens; Elizabeth Harner, freshman in agribusiness, St. George, daughter of Joe and Milly Harner; Ross Allen, freshman in philosophy and economics, Soldier, son of David and Angela Allen.

From Wichita: Hope Faflick, sophomore in political science, international studies and pre-law, daughter of Bill and Diann Faflick; and Heidi Hurtig, junior in marketing, daughter of Tony and Kim Hurtig.

From out of state: Adam Wilkerson, freshman in civil engineering, Columbia, Mo., son of Carroll and Judy Wilkerson; Aaron Bisch, junior in interior architecture and product design, St. Louis, Mo., son of Mike and Cathe Bisch.
