CHARTWELLS DINING SERVICES SUPPORTS K-STATE STUDENTS BOTH BODY AND MIND THANKS TO NEW SCHOLARSHIP

MANHATTAN -- When it comes to campus dining and nutrition, Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services has been a partner with Kansas State University and taking care of K-State students' appetites since 1996.

Thanks to an $80,000 commitment from Chartwells, K-State can announce the establishment of the Nancy Kassebaum Scholarship.

"As a partner donor, Chartwells not only contributed generous financial resources to support the scholarship but also enjoys the opportunity to develop relationships with the students they support," said Bernard Pitts, assistant vice president of student life and executive director of the K-State Student Union.

The scholarship honors Nancy Landon Kassebaum, former U.S. senator for Kansas. The scholarship will be awarded annually to four freshmen who are enrolled in any curriculum at K-State and demonstrate a commitment to public service and a strong desire to continue to work in the public service realm.

Chartwells has historically been involved in student life at K-State by providing various gifts to the K-State Student Union, the university's Parents and Family Association and the hiring of several K-State hospitality management and dietetics graduates.

"We appreciate Chartwells' continued support of our students and shared value in supporting today's emerging leaders," Pitts said. "They have been more than a service provider; they support K-State in its holistic educational endeavors."

"We’re proud to help students succeed in accomplishing their life goals and support our partnership with Kansas State University," said Steve Sweeney, Chartwells president and CEO.  "Congratulations to all of the students embarking on a promising academic career at K-State."

"This is a wonderful way for Chartwells to impact our campus community," said Pat Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students at K-State. "They are recognizing the importance of investing in our students and their success through their contributions, and we are very thankful for that."

Philanthropic contributions to K-State are coordinated by the Kansas State University Foundation. The foundation staff works with university partners to build lifelong relationships with alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students through involvement and investment in the university.
