ROAD TEST: CLICK IT OR TICKET DRIVE A SUCCESS ON CAMPUS

MANHATTAN -- A Kansas State University Police Department campaign to get people to buckle up is being credited with raising traffic safety awareness on campus.

Police conducted overtime saturation patrols to aggressively enforce laws on Kansas vehicle occupant protection, impaired driving and other traffic regulations during the department's Click It or Ticket campaign May 23-June 6. During the campaign, officers wrote 217 safety belt citations, 18 speeding citations and 73 other citations, including five for driving on a suspended license and 34 for no proof of liability insurance. A total of 294 vehicle stops were made by the collective efforts of the patrol division.

"Stops and tickets are meant to educate," said Capt. Don Stubbings of the K-State Police Department. "We hope those who were stopped learned from their experience. We will continue to do all that we can to ensure that the roads in and around the K-State community are as safe as we can make them. While the Click It or Ticketcampaign may be over, our traffic enforcement is not."

The Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign was supported by a grant to the K-State Police Department from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
