K-STATE LANDON LECTURE BY ADM. MICHAEL MULLEN, CHAIR OF JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF, RESCHEDULED FOR MARCH 3

MANHATTAN -- The Landon Lecture by Adm. Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium.

"Adm. Mullen was originally scheduled to speak at K-State early in the fall 2009 semester, but asked that his lecture be postponed because of scheduling conflicts. With U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, the relief work in Haiti and the threats of terrorism, Adm. Mullen's visit is very timely," said Charles Reagan, chair of the Landon Lecture Series.

Mullen became the 17th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in October 2007. The nation's highest ranking military officer, he serves as the principal military adviser to the president, secretary of defense, National Security Council and Homeland Security Council, and is responsible for the unified strategic direction of the nation's combatant forces. Prior to his appointment as chair of the Joint Chiefs, Mullen served as the 28th chief of naval operations.

He is a 1968 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and has commanded three ships, including the guided missile destroyers the USS Goldsborough and USS Yorktown. His other leadership positions have included at the Naval Academy, Navy's Bureau of Personnel and Office of the Secretary of Defense. He also was the 32nd vice chief of naval operations from August 2003 to October 2004, and served as commander, NATO Joint Force Command Naples and U.S. Naval Forces Europe.

The first Landon Lecture of the spring 2010 semester at K-State will be delivered by Dennis C. Blair, director of national intelligence, at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, in McCain Auditorium.
