K-STATE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT IS HOST TO 'SEIZE THE DAY,' A DUAL LECTURE ON CIVIL RIGHTS AND THE BLACK POWER MOVEMENT

MANHATTAN -- A former leader of the Black Panther Party and a noted film director will be the speakers for "Seize the Day," a dual lecture on civil rights and the black power movement being sponsored by the department of English at Kansas State University.

"Seize the Day" will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in Ballroom A at the K-State Alumni Center. It is free and open to the public.

Speakers will be Flores Forbes, a former member and leader of the Black Panther Party. Forbes, who is currently the chief strategic officer of the Abyssinian Development Corporation in New York City, is the author of "Will You Die with Me? My Life and the Black Panther Party."

Also speaking will be Kevin Willmott, a screenwriter and director who is most noted for his movie "The Confederate States of America." Willmott is an associate professor of theater and film at the University of Kansas.

A catered reception for Forbes and Willmott will precede the lecture and is free and open to the public. The reception, at 5 p.m. at the Alumni Center, is being catered by Famous Dave's.
