Get in the swing, Texas-style: County great Lyle Lovett kicks off McCain Performance Series on Aug. 26

MANHATTAN -- A Grammy-winning singer and songwriter who has been called "a star as big as Texas itself" will open Kansas State University's 2012-2013 McCain Performance Series.

Lyle Lovett and His Large Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, in McCain Auditorium.

Lovett's distinctive music blends Texas swing, folk, blues, jazz, gospel and country-western with wit and wisdom. A four-time Grammy winner, he has sold more than 4 million records and counting. His work includes such well-known hits as "If I Had a Boat," "Nobody Knows Me," "South Texas Girl," "She's No Lady," "Baby Don't Tolerate," "In My Own Mind" and many more.

His latest album -- his 15th -- is "Release Me" and features 14 covers that highlight the many genres he performs.

Tickets are on sale now, with prices starting at $27.50 for K-State students and $55 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty and staff, military and children are also available. They can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. Tickets also can be purchased online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain.
