FAMED BROADWAY PRODUCTION 'JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR' TO TAKE THE STAGE AT K-STATE'S MCCAIN AUDITORIUM

MANHATTAN -- "Jesus Christ Superstar," starring Ted Neeley, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 19 at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium.

The first masterpiece from the legendary writing team of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, "Jesus Christ Superstar" opened on Broadway in 1971 and changed the world of musical theater.

With a score of remarkable songs including, "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Hosanna," "Everything's Alright," "What's the Buzz," "Superstar" and "Heaven on Their Mind," the production remains relevant and timeless.

In the title role of Jesus Christ is Neeley, star of the original Broadway production and the 1973 landmark motion picture by Academy Award-winning director Norman Jewison.

Tickets for "Jesus Christ Superstar" are on sale now. Prices start at $19.50 for K-State students and $39 for the general public. Discounts for K-State faculty, children and military are also available. Tickets can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling 785-532-6428. More information is available online at http://www.k-state.edu/mccain/.

A McCain Conversation will precede the show at 6:30 p.m. in 204 McCain. Jim Reed, a United Methodist minister, will lead a discussion focusing on the history of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and the controversy that surrounded it when it was first produced. Reed has been around "Jesus Christ Superstar" since its first production in 1970 and has sung the role of Herod in two separate productions. He is serving his first year on the Friends of McCain Board of Directors. The conversation is free and open to the public.
