Minutes - February 20, 2003

The meeting was called to order in 274 Rathbone Hall by President Mike Spottswood, KCØIWH at 7:02 P.M.

Mike, KCØIWH, John, NØYRL, David, KAØJPM and Joe, KBØAVS were present.

The members looked at a schematic for a repeater control interface circuit. Its purpose is to pick up a logic change from a receiver and signal the controller to shut down a repeater. It was a fine-looking circuit. It had a couple of diodes, a transistor, at least one resistor for good measure, and a relay. NØYRL knew what every single component was there for! Now we're on the lookout for a somewhat older model scanner... one that would be easy to get into and use in conjunction with the aforementioned circuit.

There was discussion on IRLP. This is a new scheme that links repeaters to others via the Internet. It calls for a dedicated computer which has a Linux operating system. The members discussed the possibility of (and various options for) a second ethernet line to the Weapons Room. No action was taken.

There is a likely buyer for a select set of vacuum tubes currently available in the KSUARC tube store. A motion was made and seconded to sell the tubes for $25 or more. The motion passed.

A motion was made and seconded to sell the pop machine for $50. We are in hopes that the appliance will make its way to its new home in the next month. The transaction has not been finalized.

It was informally agreed to drop up to $60 on the used scanner we hope to acquire.

It was informally agreed to not participate in Open House on March 29.

Our first Thursday meeting was adjourned at 8:25 P.M.

David Yoder, KAØJPM
secretary-treasurer
