KSUFR at the Wayne State Tournament

Summary: This weekend-long tournament proved to be fun and successful for the KSUFR rugby club. A total of 64 teams from throughout the US participated, making it an impressive and well-organized tournament. Playing four games against three teams, KSUFR earned their way into the men's premiere division championship game.

Game 1 - Northern State: Unfortunately, KSUFR had a rough start to their tournament appearance, losing to this tough team from Aberdeen, SD. It was a slow start for KSUFR, remaining scoreless in the first half while Northern State earned 19 points. Things tightened up in the second half and Northern State was kept scoreless. However, KSUFR was only able to score one try, earned by Jake Dull, before the end of the game, making it 19-15 Northern State.

Game 2 - St. John's: The KSUFR began playing better against this team from Minnesota. In the first half, St. John's earned one try, while KSUFR remained scoreless. Things picked up in the second half with an impressive try by Brian Sullivan and another by Hale Sloan. These were followed by two great kicks by Dan Knapp, making the final score 14-5 KSUFR.

Game 3 - Semifinal game against St. Cloud: KSUFR was able to hold on to this close game, winning in a kick-off against this Minnesota team. The KSUFR team played solid in the first half, with two tries and two conversions. However, in the second half, St. Cloud was able to come back and tie the game, 14-14. After a scoreless overtime period, KSUFR was able to win the kick-off, 2 goals to 1.

Game 4 - Championship game against Northern State: We were able to make it to the chamionship game, but Northern State didn't get any easier to play. KSUFR remained scoreless throughout the game, despite some good runs by several players. In the end, KSUFR had to settle for second place, losing 27-0.
