Kansas State / Fort Riley vs. Wichita

Kansas State / Fort Riley RFC 14

Wichita RFC 10

Saturday, October 23rd at Northeast Community Park

In a clubside match, KSUFR RFC took on Wichita RFC at Northeast Community Park in Manhattan. The game was played with a 30 mph crosswind, which had a significant impact on the passing and kicking for both teams. KSUFR took an early lead on a Joe D'Agostino try 15 minutes in. D'Agostino hit the conversion to give KSUFR a 7-0 advantage. Later in the half, Alesana Alesana was able to dot down near the center, and D'Agostino hit another conversion to make the score 14-0. Wichita used its strong forward pack to repeatedly maul and run off the base of the ruck to put pressure on the KSUFR forwards. They were able to stay in the game but not score in the first half. That changed in the second half when KSUFR was penalized, and then 20 meters were given to Wichita for a KSUFR player arguing with the referee. They were able to score on a tap to the forwards. The kick was missed, and the game stayed 14-5. Late in the half, Wichita was able to score again when KSUFR mishandled a kick near the try zone. The kick was missed again, and KSUFR was able to hold Wichita for the rest of the game which ended with a score of 14-10.

For the b-side, KSUFR's B-side combined with Salina to play Wichita's B for a full 80 minute game. Despite a strong comeback led by many KSUFR players, the final score was Wichita: 30, KSUFR / Salina: 24. Try scorers included: Taran Carl, Scuba Flickenger, and Ryan Jordan
