Employment Opportunities

Mentors - coming soon!

KAWSE hires students to serve as mentors for our fall, spring and summer workshops. We typically announce these positions here on our website, through the KAWSE listserv and on Handshake. To see what a typical announcement would look like, please see below for our most recent request for mentors for our GROW Saturday Workshop we held in February 2020.

Our events for 2020-2021 are all planned to be virtual with volunteer opportunities, so check out the SUCCEED volunteer page to see how you can get involved now!

Announcement for February 22 GROW Saturday Workshop Mentors

Mentors are paid staff members of the KAWSE office who serve as group leaders at our GROW workshops. Mentors are responsible for chaperoning a group of students, usually 10-12 at a time, to a schedule of activities set out for them when they sign up for one of our workshops. Additionally, mentors are responsible for facilitating activities, such as icebreakers and time-filler games, between scheduled events. Mentors are paid hourly and receive a free lunch at events.

The KAWSE Office is looking to hire undergraduate student mentors to help with our GROW Workshop on Saturday, February 22, 2020. As a mentor, you would be responsible for chaperoning a group of middle school students (usually all girls) to a set schedule of activities on the K-State campus in Manhattan. Hours of employment are 8 AM - 4 PM, and rate of pay is $8.00/hour. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. The event schedule is as follows:

8:00 AM     Set-up/Prepare for the Event

9:00 AM     Students Check in

9:30 AM     Opening Session

10:00 AM   Activity Session 1

11:00 AM   Activity Session 2

12:00 PM   Lunch

1:00 PM     Activity Session 3

2:00 PM     Activity Session 4

3:00 PM     Closing Session

4:00 PM      Day concludes

The activity sessions are led by volunteer faculty and student groups. You are there to help the facilitator as needed (passing out supplies, making sure students are engaged and paying attention to the instructor). You would also be responsible for facilitating some team-building/ice breaker activities during down time with your group.
