Kansas State holds the distinction of being the home for plant resistance to insects research in the United States. Beginning with the arrival of Painter to our campus and, more recently, with the active participation of faculty members in IPRI, Kansas State has made many significant contributions to crop plants that are resistant to insects.
Below is the sequence of events documenting the contributions made by K-state.

1986 | IPRI meeting, Manhattan KS, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Painter's arrival in Manhattan |
1989 | 2nd "Plant Resistance to Insects" text published by K-State entomologist Mike Smith. |
1994 | Plant Resistance to Pests listserv initiated at K-State |
1995 | Painter Memorial Reprint Collection computerized |
1995 | John Reese and Mike Smith assume co-editorship of the International Plant Resistance to Insects Newsletter |
