Utilization of Salary Tiers

Furlough Deployment

Employees Exempted from Administrative Furlough

[Certain positions, classes, organizational units and/or geographical area—or any combination thereof—may be designated as exempt in a unit's furlough plan. The criteria used to make these determinations may include: budget needs, business needs, instructional needs, funding sources, or the classifications listed immediately below. Employees under the following classifications will not be furloughed:

  • employees on H1-B and E-3 visa status should not be furloughed
  • temporary employees,
  • graduate students,
  • student employees,
  • employees on sabbatical leave

Identification of Employees Required to Take Administrative Furlough

[Individual employees who will be required to take administrative furlough or who will be designated as exempted from the furlough should be entered on the Administrative Furlough Tracking excel spreadsheet included with this template for submission to HR by June 22.

Colleges/units can populate employee information needed to complete their spreadsheet by running the following queries in HRIS:

  • FY21_Admin_Furlough_DeptID
    • This query can be used to select the employees in the department.
  • FY21_Admin_Furlough_GroupID
    • This query can be used to select the employees in all departments under the under the Department's Group.
Methods and Time for Notifying Affected Employees

Please note: University employees will be notified of the furlough plan through the open meeting called by the President on July 10. Each employee furloughed must receive a letter explaining how the furlough will apply to their position. The college/major unit will need to send notification letters using an HR -provided template on July 10 immediately following the open meeting.
