Course Name:  Form I-9 Basics and Compliance

Prerequisite:  None

Department:  Human Resources

Length of Session:  2 Hours

Session Description:  Human Resources offers this quarterly session specifically for K-State employees who are responsible for accurate completion of the Employment Eligibility Verification Form (Form I-9).  The Form I-9 is used for verifying the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. Both employees and employers (or authorized representatives of the employer) must complete the form.

Participants will learn about the requirements of the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986 (IRCA).  As a result, the presenter will discuss proper completion of the Form I-9, documents commonly presented, and common errors to avoid when completing the Form I-9.

Session Objectives:  As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Understand Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986.
  • Complete a sample Form I-9.
  • Identify common errors to avoid when completing the Form I-9.
