October is open enrollment for a variety of voluntary benefits. The below information details voluntary programs and enrollment information. These plans do not require re-enrollment. If you have the coverage you desire, you do not need to complete an enrollment.
KPERS Optional Group Life Insurance, underwritten by The Standard
Open enrollment October 1-31. Coverage effective January 1 the following year.
Optional group life coverage is available to help you protect your family’s financial security. Premiums are based on your age and the coverage amount you choose. Deductions are taken from the second check of each month.

To enroll:
If you are a KPERS retirement participant:
Optional Life Insurance - Open Enrollment from KPERS.
1) To start new or increase current coverage, login to your KPERS account during your open enrollment period. Choose “New User” if you’ve never used your account.
2) Once logged in, choose the orange “Click here to apply” button.
3) Follow the steps in the wizard to add member, spouse and/or child coverage.
a. To add the guaranteed amount (no health questions), choose “Yes, add this amount.”
b. To increase your coverage, type the amount in the "Coverage Increase" box (in $5,000 increments).
4) Last, review your new coverage. Then check the box to authorize your changes and click “Submit.”
If you are a Kansas Board of Regent retirement participant:
Complete the paper form found here and send directly to the Standard. Address is on the form. Do not send to HR.

TEA insurance plans offer several ways to help you protect your family’s financial security. Life premiums are based on your age and the coverage amount you choose. AD/D premiums are based on the coverage amount you choose and STD-DisabilityFlex premiums are determined by the plan you choose. Deductions are taken from the first check of each month.

*If you are currently enrolled in Supplemental Life Insurance, you can increase your election up to an additional $20,000 to a maximum of $150,000 without evidence of insurability. If your spouse is currently enrolled in Supplemental Life Insurance, they can increase their election up to $10,000 not to exceed $50,000. Spouse's elections cannot exceed 100% of your Supplemental Life amount. If you or your spouse are not currently enrolled in the Supplemental Life Insurance, all elections will require evidence of insurability.
To enroll go to Hartford Life and Accident Insurance Company (The Hartford) website. The Login Information is as follows:

Your login ID is your employee ID Number. | Your password is your first and last name initials in lowercase followed by your date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY). |
