ASPRS Student Chapter/GIScience Club
The Kansas State University Student Chapter of the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) was founded in 2013 and provides students with an opportunity to learn more about, and interact with professionals in, the fields of remote sensing, geographic information systems, geospatial analysis, and related technologies. The chapter raises funds to support student travel grants and research awards and actively participates in activities sponsored by the Heartland Region of ASPRS. The chapter also coordinates with campus researchers and other student and professional organizations to invite visiting scholars to campus to discuss topics of interest to the geospatial science community.
About ASPRS
ASPRS was founded in 1934 and is a scientific association serving thousands of professional members around the world. Our mission is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and supporting technologies.
Student Chapter Goals
- To further professional interest in geospatial science and its techniques by affording a common organization for those interested in the field;
- To strengthen student and professional training through learning experiences, service, and networking with professionals;
- To encourage student research of high quality and to promote outlets for its dissemination;
- To create and administer funds for furthering graduate study and/or research in the fields of remote sensing and geographic information science.
Join ASPRS as a Student Member
Visit the ASPRS Student Membership web page to learn more about the many benefits of becoming a student member, which includes monthly digital issues of Photogrammetric Engineering & Remote Sensing (PERS), discounted registration fees to ASPRS Annual Meetings, and eligibility for national and regional awards, scholarships, and fellowships. Student members should be working towards a degree and requires submitting a certification of student status (i.e., copy of student student identification card). Members of the KSU Chapter of ASPRS are encouraged, but not required, to officially join the parent organization.
