Why do I need tuition insurance?

Just as you purchase insurance to protect your home and car, tuition insurance allows you to protect the investment you make in higher education for yourself or your student. Tuition insurance can reimburse you for non-refundable tuition, fees, and room and board costs (up to the amount of your policy limits) should you or your student have to withdraw from school for a covered reason.

What does tuition insurance cover?

Tuition insurance can reimburse you for up to 100 percent of tuition costs, as well as fees, room, and board.

Won't the school reimburse my tuition payments if I must withdraw?

The University policy is that there is no reimbursement after the 20th day of classes.

When is the best time to purchase tuition insurance?

It is recommended that tuition insurance is purchased prior to the first day of classes for each academic term. GradGuard has extended the purchase and modification period to the 100% refund date.

Is there a date where the policy is locked in and modifications can’t be made?

Students can enroll and modify the plan up to the 100% refund date.

If a student pays for tuition for 15 hrs, purchases the insurance, and then the student drops to 12, is a refund of policy premium available?

A pro-rated refund may be available. Contact GradGuard for additional information.

If I add or drop a class after the start of the semester, can the policy be modified?

Yes, GradGuard has extended the purchase and modification period to the 100% refund date.

Can coverage be canceled at any time?

Yes, students will be reimbursed at a pro-rated amount.

How long does the policy last?

What is included in non-refundable costs?

Yes. Students who pay for all or part of their tuition using a student loan are still eligible for tuition insurance and a refund of their tuition. If the student is still responsible for paying back the student loan after they withdraw, then GradGuard Tuition Protection Plan by Allianz Global Assistance may refund that amount minus any refunds given by the school. The same applies to any financial aid. However, tuition reimbursement insurance only reimburses expenses paid out of pocket, not grants or scholarships paid directly to the school.
