What Is News?

A Comparitive Look

Compare an article on the same subject from both the Washington Times and the New York Times. Look at everything -- the headline, leads, photograph (if applicable), language, tone, focus, and anything else that catches your eye. Make note of as many differences as you find. What do these differences tell you about the paper that printed each piece? Which version do you prefer? Why?
